i take photographs because it's a way of becoming part of a reality that transcends beliefs and territory. it's honest and it's human and it feels worth doing in a world where not a lot of things feel worth doing. what happens when people uncover who they're trying to be and show you who they are is one of the most beautiful things there is.

when i was a little girl my mom was a photographer. she had a dark room in the house and worked for the newspaper, and i remember being fascinated with everything about her process. when i was about twenty, she gave me a set of prints from an amazing series she shot in a meat-packing factory. i love those images and they have been a great source of inspiration for me to make art.
